These homemade versions of one of the nation’s favourite snacks are always a hit with the kids, and unlike the real thing are palm oil, powdered cheese and glucose syrup free. Perfect for lunchboxes and picnics!
Ingredients (makes approx 30 – 35 mini stars)
75g plain flour
35g butter (softened)
1 tsp paprika
60g finely grated cheddar
2 tbsp milk
Preheat the oven to 180C (160C fan) and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper
Rub the butter and flour together in a bowl with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs, then stir in the paprika and cheese (break up the cheese with your fingertips if it starts to clump together)
Stir in the milk and bring the mixture together into a ball, then wrap it in clingfilm and pop it in the fridge for half an hour
Roll the dough out on a floured surface, and cut out the stars with a star cutter (if you don’t have one then any other shape will do!)
Place them on the baking tray and bake for 10 – 12 minute, then allow to cool before serving
These will keep in a tupperware for 3-4 days or you can freeze them for later!
